Notes
  • Aug 15th 3:00 – 4:30 Dinking with Purpose: your team made it to the non-volley zone; now is time to capitalize and win the point! Manipulate the positioning and footwork of your opponent to create an attack opportunity or to force an error into the net. This clinic will teach how to use dinking as an offensive weapon. The theme will be on dinking strategy with a focus on mechanics such as paddle position, dink height/location, grip, and more. Appropriate for intermediate and advanced students, the first 60 minutes will focus on technique while the last 30 minutes will be practice with implementation through game play. Option: follow-up with “Play with the Coaches” to continue working on implementation.
  • Aug 15th 4:45 – 6:15 Strategic Reasons to Leave the Kitchen: many of us were told to get to the kitchen line and never leave it, but times are changing. Yes, your team should get to the kitchen line, but under what circumstances should you leave it? This clinic will cover the strategic reasons to leave the kitchen line. Interestingly, some of the reasons to leave create offense while others are to respond defensively to neutralize your opponent’s advantage. Such an interesting and fun topic! Appropriate for intermediate and advanced students, the first 60 minutes will focus on technique while the last 30 minutes will be practice with implementation through game play. Option: follow-up with “Play with the Coaches” to continue working on implementation.
  • Sept 12th 3:45 – 5:15 PM Lobs and Overheads, Offense and Defense: looking to add an element of surprise to your game? This clinic is for you! Students will learn strategic times to use lobs to setup a rally win, how to effectively put-away a setup with a strong overhead shot, and when/how to use a lob defensively to give your team time to regroup.
  • · Sept 19th 3:45 – 5:15 PM Fast Hands: “Fast Hands” are more than simply having great hand-eye coordination. Players with “Fast Hands” know where to stand, how to hold their paddles, and how to quickly execute push volleys, punch, volleys, and resets. This clinic will teach students to prepare for a “Fast Hands” reaction and start creating new muscle memory to bring on the best shot.
