9:30 AM - 12:00 PM    Home Alone & Staying Safe - Home Alone & Staying Safe Spring 2026
Home Alone, Staying Safe is a program which prepares kids for situations that can happen when staying home alone, from the the unexpected knock on the door to the 911 emergency phone call. It will also help ease the minds of parents who decide the time has come to leave their kids home alone or with siblings. This interactive and fun course, taught by South Shore Safety health educators, covers a range of safety topics: Safety to and from school Basic self defense moves Phone safety Food/cooking safety Basic first aid Choking prevention Heimlich Maneuver Handling emergencies Lots of prevention!

Instructor : Mary MarstersFor children grades 3-6The objective is for children to be introduced to the sport of running and track & field.  Focus is on fun and learning the elements of running such as warm-up, cool-down and stretching.  Children will also be introduced to the elements of track & field such as long jump, hurdles and relay.  Sneakers and comfortable clothing are mandatory.  Please be sure to bring a water bottle.All students will be given a complimentary registration for the Run for Rhi 5K on May, 24th at Heritage Park.*Mashpee Recreation does not provide transportation for programs after school. It is parent/ guardian responsibility to plan the pick up/ drop off for recreation programs.

Instructor : Mary Nielsen, 4H Certified InstructorFor participants 11 and up This 4-H certified course provides the new or veteran sitter with an up-to-date lecture series on this subject matter.  We will refresh veteran sitters and provide the skill training for new sitters.  Topics include responsibilities, fire prevention, home safety, first aid, entertainment, nutrition and much more.  Class participation is essential and assignments and quizzes are a major factor in successful completion of this course.  Please water and a snack (peanut-free).Note : Bring writing material and a notebook to the first class, note taking is very helpful. Program will take place at Quashnet Cafeteria
